About Me - Sarah Gray

My focus in education has always been 'the student' rather than 'the subject'.

I have taught in government and independent schools (as well as in the TAFE system) for over 20 years. Throughout my career, I have taught a wide range of subjects, including in the VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education), the VM (Vocational Major), VET (Vocational Education and Training) programs, as well as junior year levels. However, my focus has always been about individuals and relationships rather that the curriculum.

I understand how our education systems work and how overwhelming they can feel for families - particularly when a young person is struggling to engage. I am passionate about helping families. I recognise that serious school refusal, disengagement or attendance difficulties are rarely about defiance or choice. There is always a story behind the struggle and I believe meaningful support begins with understanding the “why”.

Sometimes support means rebuilding confidence within a current school setting; other times it involves exploring alternative education options that are a better fit for a student’s needs.

My service includes working collaboratively with families, students and schools to:

  • identify barriers to engagement and attendance
  • develop practical strategies and achievable next steps
  • support school advocacy and communication
  • explore pathway and alternative education options
  • create realistic learning plans and appropriate adjustments for teachers and schools
